Mod 5: Satat Jeevikoparjan Yojana (SJY) & JEEViKA Livelihoods Mission
Uplifting the Ultra-Poor: The Satat Jeevikoparjan Model:
Launched following the state's total prohibition on alcohol to rehabilitate families historically engaged in the manufacture/sale of local liquor (Taadi and country liquor) as well as destitute ultra-poor Mahadalit households, the Satat Jeevikoparjan Yojana (SJY) is implemented by JEEViKA (BRLPS). Recognized internationally by poverty-action labs (such as J-PAL), SJY adopts the graduation approach pioneered by BRAC.
Core Components of SJY:
- Livelihood Asset Grant: Up to ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000 per beneficiary family to acquire sustainable income assets (goatery, poultry, grocery kiosk, or electric rickshaws).
- Livelihood Gap Consumption Support: Cash stipend of ₹1,000 per month for up to 7 months to ensure food security while business assets mature.
- Dedicated Handholding: Assigned Master Resource Persons (MRPs) conduct weekly visits to teach bookkeeping and micro-enterprise management.
- Scale of Impact: Over 1.8 lakh ultra-poor families have graduated out of destitution into mainstream banking SHGs.
