Mod 1: Mineral Overview & Revenue
Undivided Bihar was highly rich in minerals like iron, coal, and pyrite. But after its bifurcation, most of the minerals went to Jharkhand. However, abundant mineral resources still exist in Bihar. The main distribution of minerals in Bihar is found in districts like Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, etc.
Revenue Collection Statistics:
- According to the Bihar Economic Survey 2024-25, the revenue collected from all mineral sources in Bihar in 2023-24 was Rs 3,114.79 crore.
- According to the latest data, the revenue collected from all mineral sources in Bihar in the financial year 2025-26 has increased to Rs 3,592.60 crore, which is the highest collection to date. This is Rs 56.39 crore more than the revenue of Rs 3,536.21 crore received in the previous financial year 2024-25.
- Thus, the Mines and Geology Department has achieved about 93 percent of the annual target of Rs 3,850 crore set for 2025-26.
- (Note: This increase was made possible due to the state government implementing strict rules like preventing illegal mining, geo-fencing, and e-challan.)
According to the Indian Minerals Yearbook, 2023: About 94 percent of the pyrite reserves are found in Bihar, while about 5 percent of the pyrite reserves are found in Rajasthan.
