Subtopic 4.1: Rural Electrification (RGGVY)

  • Under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, begun in April 2005, work is going on in all 38 districts: 24 by Power Grid Corporation, 6 by NHPC and 8 by the BSEB.
  • By September 2012, 18,635 villages and 22.54 lakh BPL homes had been connected to the grid. 171 substations of 33/11 kV were sanctioned, of which 93 were complete.
  • In 2012-13 (to September 2012), 844 villages and 1.12 lakh BPL homes were connected.
  • A target of electrifying 39,629 selected villages is set under RGGVY and other schemes. The 'APRP' scheme (as printed; probably APDRP) began on 12 May 2004.
  • Power Grid and NHPC built infrastructure in 14,166 villages, and the board energised 1,114 villages; NHPC gave service connections to 52,798 BPL families.
