Module 3: Immortal Martyr Khudiram Bose - Trial and Martyrdom
Concept
Subtopic 3.1: Arrest at Pusa Road, Trial and Execution
After the bombing, Khudiram Bose walked barefoot for about 25 miles to Pusa Road station (now Khudiram Bose Pusa station). Extremely thirsty, he stopped at a sweet shop for water, where the police recognised and arrested him.
He was tried in the district court of Muzaffarpur. The well-known Muzaffarpur advocate Kalidas Basu defended him. At Basu’s urging an appeal against the death sentence was filed in the Calcutta High Court, but the High Court upheld it. On 11 August 1908, at just 18 years of age, Khudiram Bose was hanged in Muzaffarpur Jail, becoming one of the youngest martyrs of the Indian freedom struggle.
